What the 8:15ers Like About 8:15 Worship

by on August 22, 2009

Summary Findings: “I have appreciated the 8:15 worship service because . . .”

  • Music and musicians
  • Don’t get hungry
  • Communion
    • At the altar
    • Circle
  • Informal, spontaneous nature
  • Not passing an offering plate
  • Quiet, calm, gentle
  • Holding hands during Lord’s Prayer
  • Friendly
  • Knowing others
  • Simplicity
  • Ability to go to work (with a caring attitude)
  • Fellowship afterwards
  • Worship with family
  • Not an interruption later in the day
  • Longer day after worship
  • Smaller group
    • Don’t get lost
    • Warmer
    • Freedom to great others
    • Fewer distractions
  • Brevity
  • Fewer kids

I have ordered the above response, in a general sense, from the perspective of ‘easiest to incorporate’ to ‘hardest to incorporate’ into the new 9am service.

I have also assumed that one worship service, no matter what time or format it is, cannot satisfy the spiritual needs of a child of God. So ‘intimacy’ and ‘knowing others’ may indeed not be able to be done in the 9am worship service, but can be achieved with involvement beyond worship.

In terms of number of responses, ‘communion’ ranked the highest. The 9am service will have communion every week, but not always the same way.

The 9am worship service is scheduled to begin January 31, 2010.
